What is i read ?
i read is a Reading Program specially created for schools, to inculcate and develop skills and habits in the areas of reading and learning, in primary school children, in collaboration with the KASH ( Kids After School Hours) Club.
READING touches practically every aspect of our lives. Yet, so many middle & high school children struggle with this skill.
The i read Reading Program is designed to eliminate the problem in the early years by providing an environment to enhance skills in this area with the support of trained coaches.
Thus the i read Program offers an opportunity for children from Std 1,2,3 & 4 to enroll for the Reading Club.
The i read Child
The i read child will emerge as a confident, friendly, well spoken, sharp and enthusiastic young citizen. She will learn to set goals, to develop efficient study habits along with reading skills, be inspired to gather general knowledge, be stimulated to read, will develop the look-it-up habit, will learn how to use reference materials, and will get a lot of exposure to good reading material designed to stimulate, excite and inform. He will acquire a rich vocabulary, enhanced listening and comprehension skills, and be able to think and talk intelligently. She will acquire all the skills through a combination of diverse activities, reading and writing games, book discussion and reviews, songs, creating poetry, and worksheets.
All the activities are designed to bring out the child’s potential & to create a desire to learn, and be an independent learner.
The i read Coach
All i read Coaches share a passion for education, and a genuine desire to help children succeed. They are trained to coach and mentor, rather than teach, and will make the most constructive contribution to your child’s future.
We are sure that the i read kids will find their relationship with their Coaches to be amongst the most rewarding of their academic lives.
The i read Routine
The i read program has a structured curriculum of 32 sessions, each of 80 minutes duration. This can be included in the regular timetable, or can be given as an option in the extra curricular period.
Currently, 120 students of Bhavans Vidyamandir, Hyderabad are undergoing the i read program in the Work Experience period – a double period, once a week.
The curriculum is split into 4 levels. In the first 2 levels, the focus will be on helping the child develop all the pre reading skills like Listening, Observation, Concentration, Comprehension, Recall and a Rich vocabulary.
In the 3rd and 4th levels, the focus will be on strengthening the newly acquired skills and encouraging and motivating the child to read on his own with clarity and expression.
They will be enacting a DRAMA and finally they will be creating their own story and make their own story book!
On successful completion of all the 4 levels. each child will get a certificate.
A typical Reading Session will include Reading Aloud of a story or from an encyclopedia, a book discussion and review, a game or song, an activity, discussing the Home Assignment, and a recap of the day’s activities.
The i read Parent
Parents are encouraged to engage themselves in their children’s activities. The child will be given a 15 minute home assignment, designed to involve the child and parent in a word game / activity. Parental involvement speeds up the learning process and is found to help the child take off to a good start.
The i read Registration Process
There will be an initial Registration Fee ( which will entitle the child to get the KASH Starter Kit) and a Course Fee.
The goal of the i read Program is to ensure that very soon the child has enough spare time to pursue his other activities. As his skills develop, his desire to learn will increase. After all a child who WANTS to learn, will learn, isn’t it?
